Best RaceRoom Racing Experience Settings for Thrustmaster TX / T300

RaceRoom Racing Experience has revamped its force feedback system once again, and it is a dramatic improvement. There were apparently some major bugs in the old calculations that were drowning out much of the data. In my time testing, I'm very impressed with the new force feedback. It's some of the best I've felt.

The Thrustmaster TX and T300 work beautifully with this new system. The default settings work perfectly fine, though there are some settings that can be adjusted for personal preference.

In this guide, I will show you the settings I use and what you may want to adjust for your own setup.

Thrustmaster Control Panel Settings

RaceRoom Racing Experience automatically sets the proper steering angle for each car, so it is best to leave the rotation set to the maximum in the Thrustmaster Control Panel and calibrate the wheel in-game.

Setting Value
Rotation 900° (TX) 1080° (T300)
Overall Strength of all forces 75%
Constant 100%
Periodic 100%
Spring 100%
Damper 100%
BOOST Off
Auto-Center by the game

Spring is not used by RaceRoom, so the value doesn't actually matter. I leave this at 100% since there are some games that require it.

Damper is used by RaceRoom for the Stationary Friction setting, which simply gives the wheel weight when the car is stopped.

BOOST should always be turned off. For an in-depth look as to why, see my BOOST Force Feedback Analysis.

In Options > Controls:

I recommend running the Setup Wizard. This will have you calibrate the wheel rotation and pedals, as well as have you bind buttons on the wheel for the most common functions.

In Options > Control > Wheel + Pedals:

Setting Value
Steering Rotation Mode Auto
Speed Sensitive Steering 0%
Steering Dead Zone 0%
Steering Sensitivity 50%
Steering Curve Exponent x1

These just set the wheel input to be linear.

In Options > Control > Force Feedback:

Setting Value
Force Feedback On
Inverted Force Feedback Off
FFB Strength 100%
FFB Minimum Force 2%
FFB Maximum Force 100%
Power Steering Personal Preference
Stationary Friction 100%
Smoothing 25%
Gyro Damping 0%
Gyro Effect 0%
Road Noise 50%
Engine Vibrations 0%
Gearshift Effects 0%

FFB Strength is the overall strength of the force feedback. Importantly, this can be adjusted on a per-car basis as the "FFB Multiplier" setting in the car tuning. I highly recommend binding the keys to adjust this. Each car has its own feel, and some are set too strong, so the force feedback clips too often in corners.

FFB Minimum Force raises the very lightest forces to the minimum level so they can be felt on weaker wheels.

FFB Maximum Force will set a hard limit on the strength of force that can be sent to the wheel, but will not scale the forces until that point. This is meant to be used for very powerful direct-drive wheels, where a very powerful jolt could potentially hurt you.

Power Steering can be set to be used for All Cars, or Realistic, meaning only in cars that have Power Steering in the real world. I set this to All Cars, but it is personal preference.

Stationary Friction is simply the weight of the wheel when the car is stopped. Feel free to lower this if you don't want it so strong.

Smoothing removes noise from the force feedback.

Gyro Damping will make the wheel a little harder to turn at higher speeds.

Gyro Effect is the old force feedback. It's better with this off.

Road Noise enhances some of the track surface details.

Engine Vibrations adds a vibration that matches the engine rpm. It doesn't feel very good on these wheels, so I leave it off.

Gearshift Effects gives a little jolt to the wheel when you change gears. I found setting this too high gets annoying quickly, so I recommend turning it off, or leaving it very low.

Conclusion

I wasn't expecting too much from RaceRoom after all these years. It's been fine, but this new force feedback is a major improvement. And they have done a great job documenting what everything does in the UI, which is often sorely lacking. This is a high bar they've set.
